Open Source Software (OSS) Implementation Guidelines

On 19 June 2002, the Government of Malaysia has decided to encourage the adoption of Open Source Software (OSS) in the Public Sector. The Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU) of the Prime Ministers Department is entrusted to lead and implement this OSS Initiative.

OSS Implementation Guidelines serves as a guide for the implementation of OSS in the Public Sector. In addition, this document aims to:

  1. Create awareness of OSS within the Public Sector
  2. Provide a consistent approach to the deployment and implementation of OSS in the Public Sector
  3. Provide a common framework based on best practice principles to support and encourage utilisation of OSS within the Public Sector

The OSS implementation guidelines are designed to assist and guide the stakeholders within the Public Sector in understanding and taking the right direction in the utilisation and production of OSS. These guidelines are intended to provide the right enabling environment for the implementation of OSS in the Public Sector. These guidelines will be reviewed and adjusted from time to time, in order to reflect advances in technology and the requirements of the Public Sector.
