Evaluating OSS Solution Areas |

At present there are a number of OSS solutions available for the entire IT value chain. These solutions have been grouped into 6 solution areas to assist users in evaluating the appropriate OSS solution to be implemented in their respective public sector agency.
Desktop
Standalone desktop applications to enhance user productivity e.g. office productivity tools, development tools, client OS, etc.

Application
Complete end-to-end solution to address business needs e.g. ERP, CRM, HR, etc.

Workload Consolidation
Migration of applications on multiple physical servers to a fewer number of servers with the objective to optimise infrastructure and reduce operational costs.

Clustering
The reduction computational time of parallel applications by running them on a significant number of dedicated nodes to distribute jobs to.

Distributed Enterprise
Client-server solution to optimize network traffic across a large, remotely disparate network. Processing may be carried out on remote servers with a centralised data store for consolidation. E.g. Groupware type applications (team-rooms, chat, forums).

Infrastructure
Solutions which provide infrastructure services such as DNS, firewalls, security tools, databases, server OS, etc.
