Call for OSS Case Studies Submissions for 2009 National OSS Case Study Awards Print

OSCC MAMPU is calling for submission of OSS Case Studies for the 2009 National OSS Case Study Awards. This OSS Case Study Awards are open to ALL Public Sector Agencies and Public Higher Education Institutions (IPTA). Presentation of the Awards will be held in conjunction with MYGOSSCON 2009 scheduled to be held from 4 to 6 November 2009. The Awards are classified into two (2) groups;

  • Group 1: Public Sector Agencies
  • Group 2: IPTA

OSS Case Study Awards provide an incentive to government agencies to share knowledge on OSS implementation and showcase Malaysian OSS initiatives locally and internationally. Photos of the past winners of OSS Case Study Awards are available here.

 

Submissions

Template

A template for submission is provided. It is recommended that the main sections are kept as it is, however additional sub-sections can be added. Submission in Bahasa Malaysia are also accepted provided that they follow the same formats. English is encouraged, as these case studies will also be used to showcase and share Malaysian OSS implementations to international audiences.

Submission Deadlines

The submission deadline will be 23rd October 2009, 5.30 p.m.

NOTE: All OSS Case Studies which have been submitted earlier will be reviewed and revaluated for final national awards in MyGOSSCON on November 2009. However, Public Sector Agencies and IPTA are encouraged to re-submit their edit version of OSS Case Studies before the deadline.

Scoring for Awards

Scoring is based on 4 criteria with higher scores being better. These are addressed directly in questions in the case study template.

  1. Innovation This criterion measures innovation and creativity. This includes business processes, change management as well as implementation and development of technical solutions.
  2. Impact This criterion measures the impact the solution has in terms of number of users, local vs international and also in terms of value.
  3. Quality/Recognition This criterion measures the quality of the solution, this may include adherence to web standards, architecture design and also recognition from users. It also includes any recognition the project has had from users and other government awards.
  4. Knowledge Sharing/Products This criterion measures how much knowledge the agency has made available for others, this includes seminars and presentations, technical and non-technical (guides) documentation etc. on the agency website or through other means including OSS project websites.

Each of the above criterion is worth a maximum of 5 point. In addition, a bonus of 3 points will be rewarded if ALL of the following three (3) components use Open Source Software:

  • Operating systems
  • Language/Framework and
  • Infrastructure components.

All Public Sector agencies and IPTA are eligible.

Finalist and Winners

All winners and finalists will get a chance to receive their prizes from the Chief Secretary to the Government of Malaysia during an award presentation ceremony held on 6 November during MyGOSSCON 2009 at Putrajaya International Convention Centre.

Group 1: Public Sector Agencies
3 finalists will be selected and awarded. 1 winner will be selected and awarded from the finalists.

Group 2: IPTA
3 finalists will be selected and awarded . 1 winner will be selected and awarded from the finalists.

All winners and finalists will be awarded in recognition of their OSS implementation.
